Maybe that's what you think you are doing, “I'm just making myself understood.” When actually we are trying to get them to conform to our point of view.
What if our main goal of communication, was not to make other people see thing's our way and to prove that we are right and justify ourselves, but instead, to simply present what we believe and be open to hearing the same from others.
Much of what passes for normal communication in our environments is actually a subtle (or not so subtle) form of manipulation and control. We like to feel in control, and without realising we can create an environment in which we have to prove ourselves, and we have to be right.
A lot of this I have recognised in my own life over the years, that as there was an insecurity inside of me, when something came up that assaulted my point of view, or my world-view etc. I had to defend it. I got quite good at this, and became very aggressively good at making other people wrong.
Communication is a thing that is so essential, we practice it every day, every conversation, and every interaction, through words, actions or even not doing anything is a form of communication. Everything we do communicates. We don't have an option to not, but we do now have a choice, will we work to communicate according to the Kingdom of heaven, or the other kingdom.
This is a lot of information, and I am going to unpack this over the next few days about some things that God has shown me about communication, so stay tuned to what is coming, because it is really good!
Peace!
