It would seem like this is the case, but I had a thought, what if we are only measuring one variable?
To one who is trained, in fitness, they would be very untrained, in slothfulness. Vice verse, the one who is very untrained in fitness, is actually very trained in laziness.
Seems weird right, maybe doesn't make sense? The definition of train(verb) is this;
"Teach (a person or animal) a particular skill or type of behavior through practice and instruction over a period of time."
Practice and instruction over a period of time. It would seem that the thing that is getting practiced the most by modern teens is watching TV. We have raised a generation of people extremely skilled at these kinds of things.
Perspective check. What if every moment of every day was actually training of some sort? That any skill, when used becomes a habit. Those that are used the most become the habit.
Lets move it into the eternal realm. When we think negatively, we are training ourselves to do so. It's a viscous cycle. When we think and look at others in ways that do not honour them as children of God, we are training ourselves to think that way.
Maybe this is hitting you hard right now, it hit me hard when I came to the realisation. That if the majority of my time is not spent building good habits, Godly habits, of thinking, acting, talking, loving. Then I am actually crippling myself by having to work against what my natural self would desire when I want to do something of the Godly nature.
I want to be someone who devotes their life to the ways of God. I don't want Him to have to break through every time He desires something from me, I want Him to simply confirm it as I desire to do it anyway.
I think that it is time to be taking these things seriously. That this life is not a joke. Its not unimportant. That everything has consequences. What happens if we become a person who takes every moment captive to the desires of God. That does not let a minute go to waste? They would be branded a fanatic. A freak, over-zealous, religious. But maybe they might end up changing the world. We look back at the saints of old and commend them, but do we realise that their peers despised them?
God let me burn wholly for You. I want Your presence, I want Your fire. I want You Jesus. Take it all.
